‘Beauty & Ugly’

Light is often identified with the word ‘Beauty’ as people are naturally attracted to it (eg. festive lights, night lights, sunlight). Shadow on the other hand, is the absence of light. Being the opposite of Light, it sometimes represent the ‘ugly’ and dark side.

There is a strange beauty in the co–existence of both the absence and presence of light. Light is often associated with positivity while darkness with negativity. However when captured visually, shadows occupy the positive space while light occupies the negative space and there is a reversal of roles. This project aims to encourage people to see beauty in the ugly as well because without them, the beautiful things in life wouldn’t be as beautiful as it seems. Without darkness, we wouldn’t have known the existence of light. Without shadows, we wouldn’t have known the beauty of light.
